Busy Bees Welcome

To find out what we are doing this month, see our CALENDAR!

The Schoolers enjoy free choice art and play in the morning before school. After school they have a snack followed by art, crafts and several other activities including time on the playground. . They are currently learning about weather in some fun, exciting ways! Our children have many choices each day including computer, board games, various centers where they can pretend, books for fun reading and quiet time for homework. On early release and days where school is closed we plan field trips, act out plays for the younger children and discover other creative, interesting things to keep us busy. In the summer we hike, garden, swim, journal and play outside along with more structured activities such as games, art, cooking, science and discovery.

Busy Bees/School Age Program

The Busy Bees like to call themselves The Hive! This nickname was chosen by popular vote and illustrates two of the principles behind the after-school program. These are: 1. School aged children need to have input into their program and, 2, they welcome opportunities to practice the principles upon which our society is governed.

After a busy day at school we feel it is important to provide our children with opportunities to explore their own interests including plenty of opportunity to socialize indoors and out. We also provide an opportunity to do homework and participate in other quiet play including age appropriate computer games.

Our programming is a scheduled mixture of teacher directed activities and opportunities for independent play. Planned activities include a mixture of science experiences, history, creative movement, music, cooking, dramatic play, reading, active games, and exploring various artistic media. Sometimes “The Hive” is given the option of participation while other activities require all members to participate as best they can.

Please have your child here by 8:00 a.m. if they want breakfast. The bus picks up Gilbert Linkous children at 8:10 a.m. The other children leave at 8:30 a.m. Please call us by 2:45 p.m. if your child will not need to be picked up at school. We provide transportation for planned and unplanned early releases and late mornings.

For snow days and unplanned days out of school you must provide a packed lunch and drink (no sodas please), as these days are not figured into our menu planning. Please also check your child’s basket and coat hook daily important information.

Please remember to sign your child in and out daily and feel free to speak to any of us if you questions, ideas or concerns.
